So it's happening. Van Halen has decided to reunite with David Lee Roth. Now a few months ago I would have jumped for joy while cranking Fair Warning. I must say that today I was pleased at first, but then somewhat disgusted. Why? Well, a few months back when the ever present rumors where starting to boil up word came from the Van Halen camp that Eddie and Alex where rehearsing for a summer tour WITHOUT MICHAEL ANTHONY!!
It seems that he had been dumped from the band in favor of Eddie's 15 year old son Wolfie. Now nothing against the little dude, but what the hell were they thinking? Do I have to point out the massive (and mostly overlooked) contribution that Mike had on Van Halen? I have started this blog in protest of the "reunion" that will take place this summer.
In the coming months I intend to (and invite all of you) to contribute to this site to uncover why this is such a tragedy. One that true VH fans should not take sitting down.

Oh yeah? Well, here's VH with motherfuckin' Jan Hammer! Put that in yer pipe and smoke it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntJKtEy5KUc
Too bad Wolfie is going to have his Motts Apple Juice bass vs. Jack Daniels...The 4 note rythyms on 1 bass string will never sound the same!
And I still haven't gotten over the public's prejudice over Gary Cherone taking over for Sammy. The dude define's rock n roll! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_jIdmNPv8Q
ps - i work with fletch.
VH without Michael is like eating pasta without olive oil - you don't really think you need it until its not there, and then once you start eating you think, hey, I should have used olive oil. Michael is the Halienest of them all.
Andres, thank you for creating this blog. I wish Michael the best wherever he is.
I can still to this day remember exactly where I was when I officially got word that Roth was out of Van Halen. One of the saddest days of my young(very young) life. Then came the MTV awards when the Mighty V.H. walked on stage together for the first time in I don't know how many years. I was house sitting at the time and ran myself to death screaming my lungs out much like I did as a 12 yr old punk kid at my first Van Halen show (minus the running I guess). Only to get crushed again when nothing came of it. Now 2007 I receive word from my brother Andres (the blog author) this week that it was once again on like donkey kong. Before letting out my "victory/Braveheart before battle yell" comes a thought.... what about Mike?
What about Mike indeed! I to like many of you jumped out of my socks upon hearing the news that Roth (the man, the myth. and the legend) was back with the mighty V.H. Then like many of you immediately thought "what about Mike?" then "s#@t are they going to play van hager tunes?" If they are going to claim original lineup then it should be original lineup. No if, ands, or Wolfies!
Just when you think it's going to happen the mighty Eddie rears it's ugly head...come on Eddie grow up
Hands down David Lee was the best front guy in the studio of his era. Saw them six times then, if he wasn't sh*t faced he sure acted like it but he is the man. But it really was the team that made them. Michael Anthony was so big a part of the richness of the vocals. Power Bass and could sing, and I mean belt it. There are alot of great bass players that can contribute but how do you replace Michael's voice? Without him the puzzle is still not together. I can't wait to hear what they will put together but I still can't imagine Van Halen with a blank spot on vocals.
I for one, haven't ever seen VH with Anthony in the band. I saw them when they were with Hager around 1995, they were OK. I was quite impressed with Wolfie! for being the age that he is he handled himself quite well. We saw the Reunion show at The Glendale Arena in Phoenix. I thought Van Halen rocked! Even without Anthony.
